Technology is not considered a new term nowadays. It is a concept that has been there since the ancient ages and today’s world. The starting point of this notion is to make everyday life easier and help humanity to stay everlasting. The Industrial Revolution in the 18th century can be considered as the biggest outbreak technology has ever seen. As it influenced every aspect of human life,it quickly caught the interest of all art fields. It also made room for new branches of art like photography and cinema. Although, there are many good side effects of technology; there are, undeniably, a good number of bad ones as well. Especially during World Wide ıı, technology introduced us to new deadly weapons that cost billions of people their lives. On the one hand, people feared those lethal weapons but on the other hand they enjoyed the bright side of technology which made their daily life a lot better. Thus, not many can meet on a common ground when it comes to arguing on the consequences of technology. As the fear of ‘what might happen’ increased, cinema paid a great deal of attention to this particular topic. All of that technophobic narrative that took place in the silver screen, became very effective in shaping the general view of society. Almost every genre in cinema included the concept of technology but sci-fi most definitely did it explicitly. This article has been hypothetically grounded with the help of literature review and it took it as a goal to analyse the movie Frankenstein (1931) in terms of technophobic narrative as it is one of the first examples of sci-fi. In conclusion, the movie Frankenstein (1931) has been framed with comment/analysis method and it’s been found that the technophobic narration in the movie has set up a base for sci-fi and also identified a dramatic narrative pattern.
