Abstract

Artificial intelligence technologies are increasingly transforming journalism and the news production process. This study aims to define artificial intelligence and artificial intelligence technologies and embody their use in journalism. The uses of artificial intelligence in the field of journalism are diversifying in parallel with the speed of technology, and artificial intelligence technologies are increasingly being integrated into every stage of the news production process. The diversification of technology also causes a conceptual diversification in the field. However, some basic distinctions and concepts regarding what artificial intelligence is, which technologies can be counted as artificial intelligence, whether news automation systems are in artificial intelligence are not clear in terms of journalism. The aim of this study is to define artificial intelligence in terms of journalism and to embody the uses of artificial intelligence technologies in journalism for both researchers and journalists themselves. In the first part of the study, artificial intelligence is defined, the meaning of this term and the concepts related to journalism are explained within the boundaries of the journalism profession. In the second part of the study, the fields, applications, programs and practices where artificial intelligence technologies are used concretely in the news production process are defined.
